iMovie is a powerful video editing program that comes free on all Mac's. So, you should already have it. If you happen to have an older version, definitely consider upgrading.
Final Cut Pro X is a professional video editing program. It is a great choice for professionals who need quick editing on the go. Features like the magnetic timeline make editing a breeze.

Handbrake is a great, easy to use video converter. Its best known for its ability to import DVD's to an iTunes friendly format. At the great price of free, its a must have. Note: DVD importing requires that VLC (mentioned below) be installed.
VLC is a free multimedia player that can play nearly everything you throw at it. The latest update adds a great user interface, along with support for Bluray playback, making it one of very few applications on the Mac that support Bluray. VLC is required to be installed in order to import DVD's with Handbrake (also mentioned above).
If you need a powerful video converter with tons and tons of options, then MPEG Streamclip is for you. Unless you have very specific needs for MPEG Streamclip, a simpler application such as Adapter (mentioned above) should be suitable.
iDVD is part of iLife, which comes free on every Mac. So odds are you already have it. iDVD makes creating DVD's with your favorite home movies and photos easy as pie.
